No Camp NaNoWriMo For Me This Month

Camp NaNoWriMo is back again this month. These events keep cropping up when I am not expecting them to, apparently. I have April penciled in on my yearly calendar, but I forgot about July.

The summer months are difficult for me. I am extra super sensitive to the heat and humidity, a symptom of some chronic issues. Going in and out of air-conditioned places to stumble through the heat even for a few moments always makes me sick at least on some level. This year has been more difficult than most for me. I have this sore throat and cough that will not release me (no, it’s not Covid). So I tend not to plan for very much throughout the summer.

This year should be different. I have embarked on a more concentrated writing plan. I have the BYOB project moving forward. I have several other projects that I am working through a similar format. Camp NaNo should be the perfect vehicle in which to turbo-charge these projects.

However, even though I can honestly say that I need to write at least two to three shorter pieces per day, every day, throughout the month of July in order to meet my July as well as my August goals, pledging to work through anything through the medium of Camp NaNo is not within the scope of things I want to accomplish right now.

If I want to be weirdly candid, I can tell you that not three days ago I was sitting at my desk and actually started to work up the outline for the piece I want to work on during this November’s NaNoWriMo challenge. It’s something I have worked on previously and walked away from several times because I could not quite find that hook, that twist it needs. I have that now.

What about you? What will you be doing this month of July? Do you have plans? What are your goals? Let me know in the comments below.
