Poetry Excerpt: I Swallow The Ocean

photo unsplash.com

I swallow the ocean

Once I knelt beside

The river of life

Making offerings

Uttering prayers

Dancing in the sacred smoke

Of the burning fires

I have stepped forth

Walked out

Away from the river

Out towards the Mother

The waters of her womb

Washing over me

Again and again

As She gives birth

As the sun moves

And the moon sets

I look towards Her fount

I steer towards Her mount

I am made clean

The scars boiling away

Leaving me here

My soul covered

Bound tight

To the mermaid within
