ICAD Update

Well, I thought I had only colored in the circles on two, maybe three of my index cards. I haven’t added any of the watercolor that I intend to use between the circles. I felt dejected because this is the year I mean to finish this challenge.

I was thrilled to find out I have ten cards with colored in circles. No. This is nowhere near where I ought to be in this challenge, but it does show that I am at least moving forward, no matter how slowly.

Why is this challenge going so slowly for me?

I can actually blame cats for this. Three of them in general, one of them in particular.

All three of the little boogers wait until I settle in at my desk. It doesn’t matter if it is during the day or at night. They wait. They stalk. As soon as it looks as if I am busy, or interested in what I am doing, fluffy butts come up over one edge of the desk, clattering over everything, knocking things out of their way.

Only one will sneak up behind me, scratch at my hip from behind my chair, and make me make room for him so he can get up on the desk. Of course, this one, one of the voids, does his best to lay off to one side if, and only if, I move some things around and show him that I am creating a space just for him right then and there. Not that he doesn’t flop on my notebook, or my keyboard, or whatever else when the urge strikes him.

Only one, the orange one, of course, will chew on anything I pick up. I refuse to allow him to chew on my colored pencils, so I always put those down and away from him and his raccoon-like paws. Every BIC Cristal pen I have shows how much of a chewer this guy is. No pen is sacred.

This is the guy that picks at things on my desk to mess with. If I have anything wrapped in clear plastic, he will find it and chew it. He likes the noise the cellophane makes. If he feels he is being ignored, he will lick and then chew my fingers. He’s a darling. Ok, so, he is my darling.

The third culprit just crawls up over the one side, knocking everything down, over, and off as he comes. He flops in the middle of my desk no matter what is there. He kicks things, he wiggles to give himself more room, not caring a bit if stacks of books or papers go flying. Plus, he sheds. All day, every day. As if I don’t have enough cat fur all over anyway.

So, in order to protect my index cards, I move them; I set them aside; I have had to hunt down where I put my pencils for their safety more than once now. I am not giving up on finishing these cards. I might just be working on them for the rest of the year.

Hey, one of the challenges from the original 185 Insane Author Challenge as presented by Jenna Streety (on YouTube) is to find a new hobby that you will NOT monetize. Maybe this is my ‘new’ one as this is a new project for me.

The only real change I have made to the way I am doing these cards is that I picked five colors: two shades of blue, two shades of purple, and one shade of green, and those are the only colors I am using for my cards.

I will keep you updated as I continue you this project.
