I ran out of space in my weekly Passion Planner that I had used for all of 2024 because I had re-dated the entire planner, having begun to use it in December of 2023. Since I did not want to use a planner that I would have to re-date throughout 2025, I decided the best thing to do would be to grab a large Daily planner, one that I had already used for a month before this. And so, I did.
While I needed a planner that would cover a single month for me, I also used this as a test, to see how well it worked for me, what needs it would fulfill, how I felt using it.
Well, using the planner was good…and it wasn’t.
First of all, the planner size: on some days it was perfect. I had plenty of room to write and to make notes, to list to dos and the tasks I got done. I could make notes on things that happened during the day. I could add collage and ephemera.
Then the days when things went to hell in a hand-basket, there was just WAY too much room. I felt awful seeing very little on a page, sometimes a couple days in a row, but that is what it was.
On my better days, I would tell you this is a terrific planner. On my worse days. I would bemoan the size and ask for something smaller. There were actually days that I wanted and needed something bigger, but why go there? There are extra notes pages in the back.
However, no matter what size, the daily planner is not my ideal single planner for every day use. If used in conjunction with other planners, I can see it working, but I do need something with the calendar dates over a year in advance so I can keep track of things better.
This is only my opinion.
I could use a daily Passion Planner as a Bullet Journal easily. One page (of the two-page daily spread) for my daily tasks and whatever else I do for my Bullet Journal. The other page all the pre-set-up stuff to keep me on task.
Now, about the pre-set page. Did I use it as it was intended to be used? Meh.
I appreciate the “today’s focus” box, but out of thirty-one days, I used it three times. And only one of those times didn’t say ‘Holidays!’
The ‘gamechanger goal” box, I used it, but mostly to put in short affirmations or positive encouragement. Out of thirty-one days, I actually used it about sixteen times. Never once putting anything related to any goal in that space.
Now, the “personal” and the “work” boxes I actually did use, and use for their intended purposes. Most days I would enter two to three of my most important tasks for the day in its proper space.
The “free space to grow” ]box I used it mostly to write notes about things that happened during the day, or to make quick lists of various things. This box is something I do enjoy having there.
The “self-maintenance”, “best thing that happened”, and “today I learned” boxes I almost never used at all. The four times (yes, I had to count) I used any of these three boxes it was because I had some much on both pages of the spread that I had run out of room and those were the only spaces left available to write something in. Otherwise, I did not find them useful.
As for the “today in one word” box, I used it twenty-eight days out of thirty-one, so that says something. I do enjoy the ‘one word a day’ trackers.
The “mood” box, with its five little faces to track mood, I used every single day, without fail. I like that feature.
Now, that page has two columns. All of those boxes are on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side is space for the day of the week and the date. Underneath that is a timed layout for the day ranging from five am to 11 pm.
I always ignore any time slots. It’s just what I do. I don’t even bother covering the time line with washi tape or anything else these days. I simply write all over it as if it weren’t there.
Those lines are typically where I track what happened that day, what I accomplished, tasks I finished, places we went, things we did, that sort of thing.
The whole planner has page numbers, which just dawned on me as I checked the number of notes pages in the back. Dot grid notes pages begin on page two hundred sixteen. They end on page two hundred twenty-seven, although that page does have some information on the bottom of the page (designed in California, printed in China), which does not bother me in the least. I used that page as a pen-test page, as well as a place to stick scraps of washi tape.
There is a page two hundred twenty-eight. It’s a congratulations page for finishing three months in the planner.
The planner also includes a back pocket, which I have apparently not used nor looked at since I used it for that first month in 2022. But it’s there and intact and as strong as ever, so I cannot complain.
After all the abuse this thing has endured since I bought it in roughly 2022 (the planner itself is branded as a 2021) it has held up perfectly. Spine is in great shape despite all the junk I have put into it, tip-ins, ephemera, collage, washi tape.
I do have the seasonal four-pack of undated daily Passion Planners sitting at the ready, not to mention, I apparently have a stack of the large and the medium sizes in my stash for whenever I need them.
I have no plans to continue to use this large black planner as yet. The seasonal planners I have some nebulous idea of using them as writer’s journals, but I have not solidified that idea yet.
Do I recommend the large undated Passion Planner daily? Or really, any size of the undated daily?
I do. I do like the set up. I always appreciate having two pages per day. I appreciate the monthly spread at the beginning of the book, even if I wish the monthly and the month were together, but that is a me thing.
Size depends on what I am using the planner for. As my own personal every day ride or die this is my only planner that I am using, nah. Not for me. But the planner is well made. I like the paper. I like the feel. It’s a sturdy book. It takes a lot of abuse, at least from my cat and me, and it still looks great.
Overall, if you need something open-ended, but with just a little guidance in your day, the Passion Planner daily is perfect.
