My Word Of The Year For 2024

My word of the year for 2023 was: Be.

As in Be Yourself. Just Be. Be Happy. Be You. Be True. Be true to you. Yada yada.

I have definitely been leaning into that this year.

Instead of being Mom, or being someone else, being what’s expected, I’ve just been me. With everything I have going on personally, and everything we have going on around us as a family, it is something I deeply needed.

For 2024, my word is Depths.

I found the perfect quote to keep this word in my brain all the time:
“It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.” By Ralph Waldo Emerson.

What does Depths mean to me, for me?

It means I will be digging in, digging down, and exploring my roots, the foundations of my own self. I am going to be pulling apart the shadows within and without, perhaps shining some light into those shadows. I am going to work on understanding what I find, what I learn, what comes up. I will also be giving voice to that which lies hidden away, allowing what needs to come forth, to pour forth, in a compassionate and gentle setting.

Frankly, I prefer the imagery of a kelpie, a selkie, or a mermaid diving deep deep into the depths of the ocean and exploring all that can be found therein. That makes more sense to me, makes more sense for me.

What about you? Have you chosen a word of the year, if you do such a thing? What does it mean to you, for you? Let me know in the comments below.
